Aldemaro Romero

Aldemaro Romero was born in Valencia, Venezuela March 12, 1928. His musical studies began at a young age when he started working with his father, Rafael Romero. His career began at the age of 10 where he sang and played guitar on the radio program, La Hora Infantil. He made many moves in his younger years to Caracas to Cuba to New York and then returned to Caracas. During his travels, Romero made a name for himself in the musical world as a pianist, composer and innovator of Venezuelan music. In 1941, his first move to Caracas, he worked with a tropical band called Alfonso Larrain’s orchestra.
In 1948 he left Caracas to tour Cuba with the band and shortly after he went to New York to work for the RCA Victor record label as an arranger and piano accompanist. He began a sequel of songs called “Dinner in…” and had a different country for every part of the sequel. Romero was the creator of a new form of Venezuelan music, known as "New Wave" (Onda Nueva), derived from the joropo and influenced by Brazilian Bossa Nova. He also founded and started many orchestras, one of the most famous being the Caracas Philharmonic Orchestra; of which he was also the first conductor. In 1969 Romero received the Peace Prize of the Soviet Intellectuals, in the Moscow Cinema Festival for his soundtrack music for a film. Romero has an extensive discography including hundreds of manuscripts and scores of music from his orchestras.
