Eduardo Marturet was born in Caracas, Venezuela on September, 19 1953. After graduating as a science major in 1971, he moved to Cambridge, England, for 9 years. Eduardo received degrees in piano, percussion, composition, and conducting at East Anglia University. In 1976, he become the founding president of the CCAT Contemporary Music Society; and was also invited to join the SPNM Society for the Promotion of New Music. Eduardo became Music Director of the Cambridge Contemporary Dance Group, whom he had already written and performed a number of works for. After two years in Cambridge as Music Director with the Arbury Orchestra, he returned to Venezuela in 1979 as Associate Conductor with the Caracas Philharmonic Orchestra, and became the first Music Director at the Teresa Carreño Theatre.
Marturet was Artistic Director of the Sinfonietta Caracas and Artistic Director with the Orquesta Sinfónica in Venezuela from 1987 until 1995, and is currently involved in the Venezuelan National Youth Orchestra movement.
He is now a world-renowned conductor, currently holding the position of Music Director and Conductor to The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO). Although Marturet has become a great composer during the last seven years, he has only written three scores that followed the traditional form of orchestral music: Notturno 1980, Sol por Occidente 1982, and Secretos 1986. Despite Marturet’s stance that “the concert is an obsolete form of expression, from the standpoint of the creator,” he was “entrusted with the musical design for the Venezuelan pavilion at the Epcot Center in Florida, USA” in 1982. This project, however, was never completed.
